Sustainable employability during the entire career: towards an inclusive perspective on aging at work
Sustainable employability during the entire career: towards an inclusive perspective on aging at work
Samenvatting
Sustainable employability is essential for an aging workforce as careers extend and retirement ages rise. Organizations must adopt inclusive strategies that support older employees’ health, engagement, and productivity. Despite misconceptions about aging workers’ declining abilities, research highlights their valuable experience and stability. Aging at work extends beyond chronological age, encompassing functional, psychosocial, organizational, and lifespan perspectives. This multidimensional approach helps to assess older workers’ evolving competencies and needs. Employability depends on human resources (HR) strategies such as training, flexible work, and job redesign. Addressing workplace ageism, fostering intergenerational collaboration, and aligning job demands with workers’ abilities enhance career longevity. Future research should examine cultural perspectives, long-term HR policy effects, and interventions for sustainable employability.
