Energy Booster

A Qualification and Information Offensive for Innovative Building Technology and Renewable Energies

Samenvatting

Abstract. The accelerating energy transition requires a well-trained workforce capable of im-plementing innovative building technologies and renewable energy systems. However, em-ployees in the construction and HVAC installation sectors often lack access to up-to-date train-ing due to high workloads, labour shortages, and limited continuing education opportunities. The international project Energy Booster addresses this gap by developing a comprehensive qualification and information programme focused on twelve key topics, including photovoltaic systems, heat pumps, heat networks, climate control, energy storage, sector integration, and green hydrogen.
Two educational institutions from Germany –Handwerkskammer (HWK) Münster and Handwerkskammer (HWK) Osnabrück – Emsland - Grafschaft Bentheim– and also two from the Netherlands –Regionaal OpleidingsCentrum (ROC) van Twente and Saxion University of Applied Sciences (UAS)– collaborate to design concise, practice-oriented courses offered both online and on-site. Since 2023, this collaboration has created, translated, and piloted twelve courses, initiated a train-the-trainer programme, organised excursions to relevant energy tech-nology sites, and hosted an expert conference. Pilot participation numbers demonstrate strong sectoral interest.
This paper outlines the project organisation, course development process, and lessons learned, highlighting the value of integrating modules offering flexible learning formats tailored to the target groups. The project aims to strengthen the regional workforce and provide a rep-licable model for other regions seeking to enhance vocational training in support of the energy transition.
