An AI-driven agentic simulation method for formally analysing complex organisational processesSamenvatting
This graduation project focuses on improving the understanding and analysis of complex business processes that are difficult to manage due to inconsistencies, lack of standardisation, and poor interoperability between systems. The project is situated in the domain of business process modelling and simulation, with a strong emphasis on translating existing processes into structured, machine-readable models. A business process is a structured set of activities executed within an organisation to produce a specific outcome (Aguilar-Savén, 2003). At Damen Naval, such processes span engineering, planning, and production, and are currently documented using textual descriptions and BPMN diagrams, which provide static views of process flow but do not capture dynamic behaviour or concurrency. A key concept within the assignment is the use of agentic simulation to represent process steps and roles as interacting actors. This approach makes it possible to observe process behaviour, identify bottlenecks, and reason about the impact of changes. The primary focus lies on the modelling and simulation method itself, while optimisation and advanced automation are considered secondary and contextual aspects.
