Gepubliceerd in Mikroniek, nr. 6 2018 In manufacturing environments where collaborative robots are employed, conventional computer vision algorithms have trouble in the robust localisation and detection of products due to changing illumination conditions and shadows caused by a human sharing the …

Youyou et al. showed that from 70 likes the algorithm could predict the personality better than friends, from 150 likes better than family members and from 300 likes even better than the test person himself. However, the machine learning algorithm does not know the person better than the colleagues, …

In machine learning, people stay responsible for defining both the available data, and the desired outcomes. The growth of knowledge and insights remains both critical and constantly dependent on developments, and therefore on professionals. Although the quality of our work can increase through the use …

In On the Mode of Existence of Technical Objects (1958), French philosopher Gilbert Simondon noticed that humans were losing their reciprocal connection with technology. We push buttons without understanding what’s happening ‘inside’ the machine – whether it’s a light switch or a smartphone. ‘For Simondon, …

Background A key factor in successfully preventing falls, is early identification of elderly with a high risk of falling. However, currently there is no easy-to-use pre-screening tool available; current tools are either not discriminative, time-consuming and/or costly. This pilot investigates the feasibility …

Objective: To automatically recognize self-acknowledged limitations in clinical research publications to support efforts in improving research transparency. Methods: To develop our recognition methods, we used a set of 8431 sentences from 1197 PubMed Central articles. A subset of these sentences was …

Ziedaar onze ultieme kwetsbaarheid: in …
