The increasing penetration of renewable energy (RE) and hydrogen technologies is reshaping the operational requirements of modern decarbonised energy systems, necessitating advanced control strategies to coordinate renewable generation, hydrogen storage, and heterogeneous end‐use demands. This paper …

The built environment is responsible for approximately 36% of carbon emissions in Europe, 40% of energy consumption, and over 50% of extracted virgin materials, as well as generating one third of total waste (European Commission, 2020). Historically, strategies to reduce the environmental impact have …

Quite literally, our title marks the perspective we worked out for this article. What is the value of creativity if anyone can generate 1000 ideas at the touch of a button? And how do artists and designers that create at the forefront of digital art and design maintain and develop this value? How do …

While modern construction vehicles often come equipped with proprietary telematic systems, a substantial portion of the global construction fleet consists of older machines that lack any form of digital monitoring. The exact share is unknown, but in many companies, legacy equipment still plays a critical …

Energy conservation is crucial in wireless ad hoc sensor network design to increase network lifetime. Since communication consumes a major part of the energy used by a sensor node, efficient communication is important. Topology control aims at achieving more efficient communication by dropping links …

This paper introduces and contextualises Climate Futures, an experiment in which AI was repurposed as a ‘co-author’ of climate stories and a co-designer of climate-related images that facilitate reflections on present and future(s) of living with climate change. It converses with histories of writing …

Permacomputing is a nascent concept and a community of practice centred around design principles that embrace limits and constraints as a positive thing in computational culture, and on creativity with scarce computational resources. As a result, permacomputing aims to provide a countervoice to digital …

Conducting large calculations manually with pen and paper following prescribed procedures or algorithms has been diminishing in significance for some time. In most cultures, and for many years already, individuals employ digital instruments for such computational tasks, when confronted with them in daily …

What is platformization and why is it a relevant category in the contemporary political landscape? How is it related to cybernetics and the history of computation? This book tries to answer such questions by engaging in multidisciplinary dialogues about the first ten years of the emerging fields of platform …

From single-cell organisms to complex neural networks, all evolved to provide control solutions to generate context- and goal-specific actions. Neural circuits performing sensorimotor computation to drive navigation employ inhibitory control as a gating mechanism as they hierarchically transform (multi)sensory …
