Involuntary firearms discharges (IFDs) are instances in which law enforcement officers unintentionally discharge their firearms, potentially resulting in injuries, fatalities, legal consequences, and community mistrust. This scoping review explores the factors and mechanisms contributing to the occurrence …

Since the early 2000s, global population ageing has significantly reshaped how urban design and planning address the human experience of city life. In this evolving context, age-friendly urban design has emerged as a transdisciplinary field aimed at configuring spatial systems that sustain autonomy, …

This research aims to evaluate the usability, efficiency, user satisfaction, and cost-effectiveness of different augmented reality hardware in the quality control process within a manufacturing environment. The study focuses on the application of AR technologies to enhance industrial practices, particularly …

The After-Action Review (AAR) in Virtual Reality (VR) training for police provides new opportunities to enhance learning. We investigated whether perspectives (bird’s eye & police officer, bird’s eye & suspect, bird’s eye) and line of fire displayed in the AAR impacted the officers’ learning efficacy. …

Virtual training systems provide highly realistic training environments for police. This study assesses whether a pain stimulus can enhance the training responses and sense of the presence of these systems. Police officers (n = 219) were trained either with or without a pain stimulus in a 2D simulator …

CC-BY Applied Ergonomics, 2021, March https://www.journals.elsevier.com/applied-ergonomics Purpose: To analyze progression of changes in kinematics and work physiology during progressive lifting in healthy adults. Methods: Healthy participants were recruited. A standardized lifting test from the WorkWell …

We investigated to what extent correctional officers were able to apply skills from their self-defence training in reality-based scenarios. Performance of nine self-defence skills were tested in different scenarios at three moments: before starting the self-defence training programme (Pre-test), halfway …

Steering systems of trucks consist of many linkages, which introduce nonlinearities that may negatively affect steering performance. Nowadays, it is possible to equip steering systems with actuators that provide artificial steering characteristics. However, before new steering systems are deployed in …

We investigated the effects of reflex-based self-defence training on police performance in simulated high-pressure arrest situations. Police officers received this training as well as a regular police arrest and self-defence skills training (control training) in a crossover design. Officers' performance …
