The Saxion Research Centre for Design and Technology employs many students during research projects. This paper discusses a series of student design projects on safety helmets in the Safety@Work project. At construction sites workers are required to wear personal protective equipment during their work. …

The ‘wave’ of technology breaking over Higher Education continues to impact the interaction between lecturers and students. The increasing prevalence of video and the ease of its distribution offer lecturers the opportunity to use the medium of video to enhance their teaching in a variety of ways with …

A unique way of teaching practical aspects of renewable energy technologies has been experimented in the University of Oldenburg since 1987. An energy laboratory (Energielabor), built in 1982 and powered by renewable energy sources, has been used for practical training, lectures and office space for …

Decentralized biogas produced through co-digestion of biomass can play an important role in our future renewable energy mix. However the optimal design, planning and use of a biogas production chain is a daunting process. When looking into a biogas production chain one must take into account, first, …

In reaction to the lack of intrinsic motivation of construction site workers, to wear their safety helmets at all times, a series of research projects studied causes and possible solutions. Goal is to gain an inspirational discussion to get the design onto the next level. This paper describes a study …

This paper describes a demo for the Persuasive Conference 2014 (21-23 May, Padua, Italy) which shows the result of a design project in the edutainment field. The tries to raise safety awareness among construction site workers. The purpose of the demo is to raise safety awareness amongst construction …

The increase in renewable energy sources will require an increase in the operational flexibility of the grid, due to the intermittent nature of these sources. This can be achieved for the gas and the electricity grid, which are integrated by means of power-to-gas and vice versa, by applying gas and other …

Abstract written for an poster presentation at the EBA conference in Alkmaar. The flexibility of biogas makes it a very capable load balancer within decentralized smart energy systems. However, within this context the sustainability of biogas production is not fully understood. What is needed is a tool …

Organisations operate in an increasingly dynamic environment. Consequently, the business models span several organisations, dealing with multiple stakeholders and their competing interests. As a result, the enterprise information systems supporting this new market setting are highly distributed, and …
