Single-use cardiac catheters contain platinum group metals, platinum, palladium, and iridium, in their electrode components, yet are routinely incinerated after a single procedure, destroying materials that are both economically valuable and classified as critical raw materials by the European Union. …

The success of the energy transition will depend not only on the rapid deployment of zeroemission technologies, but also on the expansion of renewable energy sources such as wind, solar, and hydrogen. Equally important is meaningful engagement with the communities affected by this transition. Despite …

Linear supply chains for electrical and electronic equipment lead to substantial material losses and environmental impacts, particularly for polyurethane rigid foam used as insulation in refrigerators. This study investigates the systemic conditions that shape the transition towards circular supply chains …

Biomethane is emerging as a key renewable gas in both mature and developing energy systems worldwide. Driven by climate-neutrality objectives, energy-security concerns, and rising waste-to-energy ambitions, global biomethane production is expected to expand rapidly in the coming decade. In Europe, this …

Maar welke kansen liggen er voor ondernemers en hoe ontwikkel je een businessmodel rondom stedelijke reststromen? Deze publicatie is vooral bedoeld voor ondernemers en andere …

The present study investigated the effectiveness of the RiverScan third mission initiative in Cebu City, Philippines. The textile industry is one of the most polluting industries. To reduce its environmental impact, the entire supply chain must transition from a linear to a circular economy, making textile recycling at end-of-life critical. Stimulated by new regulations, the industry is increasingly incorporating recycled …

This research illustrates how cities use different forms of governance to increase circularity in construction and demolition sector. Using circular economy and city governance frameworks, we present multiple case studies of four European cities namely Riga, Tartu, Barcelona, and Kavala, based on qualitative …

The healthcare sector ranks among the largest consumers of single-use plastics, generating substantial amounts of waste, an issue strikingly captured in Maria Koijck's breast surgery photography. To reduce the environmental impact, biobased and biodegradable polymers are promising alternatives to conventional …
